Seni sebagai Penggerak Misi: Romo Jan Wolters CM, Promotor Gereja Bercorak Jawa di Pohsarang Kediri
Abstract
This article discusses art as a driving force in realizing a Javanese-themed church in Pohsarang, Kediri. It specifically examines the role of the missionary, Father Jan Wolters CM, who promoted the mission through the integration of local culture. This event is reflected upon through the lens of applied anthropology. The methodology includes literature studies from various relevant sources and interviews with community leaders in Pohsarang. The author draws from previous research and direct field studies. The article aims to expand knowledge about the missionary movement driven by Javanese art and culture in Pohsarang. It seeks to illustrate how church missions can coexist with the preservation of local culture, creating harmony between religious values and local community traditions. The article intends not only to provide insights into the history of missions but also to emphasize the important role of art in developing the church's identity within a cultural context.
