Ajaran Sosial Gereja: Mengapa – Apa – Bagaimana
Abstract
This article discusses the importance of Catholic Social Teaching (CST) as the Church’s response to various social issues that affect human life. Social life has a significant impact on human well-being, dignity, and development; therefore, moral guidance is needed not only for personal life but also for life in society. Through a historical review of the Church’s social documents, from Rerum Novarum to Fratelli Tutti, this article explains the nature of CST as a reflection of Christian faith in response to changing social realities. Furthermore, the article describes the method of applying CST through the steps of seeing, judging, and acting, and explains the social principles that guide the Church’s involvement in the world, such as human dignity, the common good, participation, solidarity, subsidiarity, the preferential option for the poor, and nonviolence. Through these principles, CST is expected to serve as a guide for Christians in promoting a more just, humane, and prosperous society in accordance with Gospel values.
