Kerendahan Hati sebagai Jawaban: Spiritualitas Vinsensian dalam Merespons Tantangan Kecerdasan Buatan menurut Magnifica Humanitas
Abstract
The rapid development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the contemporary era poses profound challenges to human dignity, as highlighted by Pope Leo XIV in his encyclical Magnifica Humanitas. The encyclical criticizes AI’s calculative logic, the concentration of digital power, and the ideology of transhumanism, which tends to diminish human values. Interestingly, similar concerns were voiced centuries earlier by Saint Vincent de Paul regarding the danger of intellectual pride that detaches the power of reason from the foundation of humility. Through a literature review, this paper aims to explore the contribution of Vincentian spirituality as an ethical and theological response to the challenges of artificial intelligence. The discussion reveals that intellectual arrogance and AI logic stem from the same root issue measuring humans by their capacity and efficiency rather than their dignity as the image of God. The Vincentian virtues of humility and simplicity offer an ethical framework to ensure that technological innovation does not become a tool of domination or merely a means to pursue illusory technical perfection. Instead, human limitations are recognized as a space for the encounter of love and solidarity. In conclusion, Vincentian spirituality makes a significant contribution to the Church in ensuring that no matter how advanced technology may be, it must always be subject to humility and oriented toward the service of love, especially for those who are the weakest and most vulnerable.
